recommendation for a place to live between Stony Brook and Mineola (Islip: rentals, safe)

Hi everyone

We currently live near Stony Brook, but my wife will start work in Mineola in a few months time, and my work is in Stony Brook. We are trying to figure out where to move to when she starts work. We want to stay close to the LIRR train station, and somewhere in the middle of Stony Brook and Mineola so that the commute either by train or by car is less for both of us.

Huntington seems like a natural choice -- which areas in Huntington are safe and good to live? We will want to rent a two bedroom apt. Can anyone recommend some place else that fits our needs?

With your request to reasonable proximity to LIRR in mind:

Huntington, Greenlawn, E. Northport and parts of Huntington Station in the Huntington area (possibly Cold Spring Hills, when rentals are available)

Babylon, West Babylon and maybe West Islip on the Babylon line
