We just went into contract on a home in Nassau County for $425k. We are putting down more than 20% and have excellent credit scores (mine was 816 ). I was planning on using the Bethpage Credit Union but now some banks like Wells Fargo are offering lower rates like 4.75%.

Anyone have experience with Wells Fargo?

I see rates getting down to 4.

Just my 2 cents.

My boss used Wells and said they were great.

Keep in mind, I think Wells fargo's rate is with 1 point, while BFCU is not.

I am planning on using BFCU once we go to contract because their 4.875 is no points.

They are my #1 recommendation (I get nothing for it). Have someone if you are interested ...

I have a WF guy already thanks! FYI - the 4.75 is with no points. I'm looking at the good faith estimate right now. I wanted to use Bethpage (just liked the idea of not using a bank), but BCU is not looking competitve at the moment!

I think they charge a 1% origination fee

The GFE says .125 and it comes out to $350. Maybe it's because of my good credit? I guess this is the best deal then....

IMHO, Wells Fargo is one of the best lenders out there; BCU is good as well (I too like the idea of not using a bank if possible).
Compare all the costs on the GFE line by line and don't hesitate to ask questions; also, any changes should be in writing
Please keep in mind that rates can change several times a day and until you're locked in, you don't have the rate, whatever it may be. This makes it very difficult right now to truly compare rates.
