That doesn't stop shoplifting or any other crime. So why would it work for graffiti artists?

they would do a report on the news for graffatti artist, not shoplifters whom get arrested.
do you believe theres a white kid from massapequa, 38, who still takes pride in his graffitti work?

graffatti has been on long island for a long time. I remember back in high school (1987) there were plenty of kids doing graffitti. hell, I even did a couple of tags. but it started with the kids from brooklyn and queens moving out to posh long island to show the nice kids how to do it and the white kids from massapequa to go visiting parts of the city to pick it up.

What ever happened to ring and run? Soaping store windows? Pretending to pull an invisible rope across a street when a car comes by. Tennis ball cannons, water balloon fights, putting soap in a public fountain?

I'm moving to live in a missle silo.

Shingle fights, flagpole swinging, milk crate infernos, bun runs ...I digress.

It doesn't help that we have a section of our society that glamorizes graffitti taggers as "artists" and some of them go on to make a fortune in the art scene.

Celebrate diversity of expression! Graffiti is just another way for the youth of America to express themselves. We should be happy that these youths have chosen an art form that goes all the way back to Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, heck it could be considered Classical.

Or then again they more likely just a bunch of punks defacing other peoples property.

I've always noticed graffiti on the sides of bldgs, at train stations, etc but I was surprised the other day to see gold spray paint tags over a few panels of someone's white PVC fencing. That's rotten.

Considering the taxes we pay....its outrageous that we look like Corona.
No town is immune.
Shame on us.

We should be dazzled, but then again, if a cop's responding to a tagger while someone's wife/daughter is being raped -- well then people are going to complain that the cops are never there when you need them. It's a no-win.

Considering the taxes we pay...it's a shame we aren't producing more Rhodes Scholars, too.... (kidding!)

The punkass, sidewards cap wearing wannabes should be made to spend a day -- on their own -- in the middle of the real hood. They'll need Depends and be crying for momma.

In all seriousness, I agree with dman72 -- taggers who are caught should be vigorously prosectuted to send a message to their peers in paint. Names should be published in the paper, fines paid and copious hours of community service performed: cleaning graffitti from anywhere that they tagged.
