Steam cleaning and painting are the best advice.

Steam cleaning won't always work especially if the smell has hit the padding.Like I previously said repainting and replacing carpets and you'll definitely be fine. For most houses; carpets can range from $2500-5000 and paint maybe a few 100 unless you get a professional then maybe $1000 for a 1800-2500 sq ft average home.

I thinik your price on painting is off, but I haven't hired it out before.

I've spent over $500 in materials on painting my smallish house

You can usually paint a room or 2 with one can of paint and paint ranges from anywhere between $10-40 a can.Even if you're painting 4 bedrooms, 2 baths,LR,DR,Kitchen,Halls--thats about maybe the equivalency of 10-12 rooms (5-6 cans/$240+ primer if needed). When my neighbor did his house 3 years ago it was $1050 exactly and his layout was the same as mine as stated above but I have a 3rd bathroom.Call around, you'll get your price.

I had the same problem when I looked at a house in Valley Stream. I couldn't get pass the smell so I took it off my list. I agree the posts above...lots of fresh air and paint...get rid of the carpet..

Congrats on the home!!!!

Default Strong smells in house

These threads are outdated. I'm in a similar situation perfect location, nice house, curry smell! Is there anything more recent on the market that would eliminate the smell and be cost conscious? Thanks

Threads like this are so ridiculous, my parents were heavy smokers for over 30 years in their house, when they quit it took about a week for the smell to go away, no steam cleaning, no re-painting, etc etc.

The thread may be outdated, however, the advice not. What is more cost conscious than paint and air?
