It's a shame there can not be a rational discussion because a cop or a teacher (or someone related to one) comes on and drags the thread into a mud slinging match. That's just a diversion tactic .

The threads will continue until the basic problem is adressed and taxpayer anger subsides. We have barley started that process and the REAL budget crisis hasn't really hit yet, so it could be years of pain (and these threads) unless we take some practical actions now. In 2010-11 the federal subsidy for schools goes away and there will be large unfunded obligations for schools. I don't even want to think what that may mean for LI, so I would rather awareness and discusssion be given to the topic.

It's not a teacher/police issue at heart really - (they are really the same issue!). We have promised the world to governmtent employees and cannot deliver unless we "deep six" the taxpayer. It just happens the teachers part of it is much larger. But the model for sustainable government needs to be applied across the board.

Unfortunately, his posting history is littered with fixation on cop salaries. Almost seems like an obsession.
