Wilson Ave. Reallly close to 25. It is considered "middle island" so I am not sure. I am not worried about the SD. I want to make sure that I don't buy a house close to crack heads & such.
This is the area to avoid.Go drive by and you'll see.
Gordon heights is not on the border of MI, its smack in the Middle of Coram on the southern side, ask Walter for a map.
The problem with MI right now is its been seriously affected by the economy, almost all of the shopping centers have vacant stores, boarded up businesses and the area just looks generally depressed along RT25. For the record MI & Coram have both been through this before & by the time they come back around & new businesses jump in to the area things are headed back into the cyclical crapper again. My guess is the toyota dealer and PC Richard close up next.
ETS-I would not buy a house in an area considered Gordon heights, its not a great area & do you research on the Fire Dept
Gordon Heights covers 3 areas. It's in Medford by Granny Rd.(east of 112),Middle island(s of 25,w of middle island rd.)and coram(s of 25 by homestead dr.
it is considered "gordon heights". i dont know if that helps.
Having lived near that area I can say that what the other posters say is true. Avoid that area.
Is your real estate agent working for the seller or buyer? If he/she is working for you and showing you higher priced houses or not showing you ones that are not their listings, then you should contact the listing agents of houses that you want to see directly.
Remember if the real estate agent is working for the buyer (you), then he/she is working for you and you're not working for them. Go with someone else if you're not getting into places you want to see.

Look at the map. See the street "Homestead'? The apartment complex there is basically the closest thing Long Island has to a NYC housing project in terms of drugs, crime, and poverty.
This house is about 1 block away from Middle Country Rd. (25) It IS south of 25 but not close to coram. I am going to see it today with Listing agent so I will see how the area is. I looked on a map and Gordon Heights doesnt look close to the house street but I am not sure... obviously it is listed as GH for a reason, you know?

Trust a bunch of people who know..that area is Gordon Heights, and in the thick of all the bad stuff. Drive over to Homestead before you bother to see the house.

For those who may not be familiar with Gordon Heights
Gordon Heights has some very confusing geography as there is no "Gordon Heights, NY" mailing address, and Gordon Heights is in 3 separate ZIP Code postal zones: "Coram, NY 11727", "Middle Island, NY 11953" and "Medford, NY 11763".
You can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) a house is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)
And, very importantly, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.
For those who may not be familiar with Gordon Heights:
Gordon Heights is a hamlet (an unincorporated community) in the central part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the central part of Suffolk County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Gordon Heights in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Coram and the Hamlet of Middle Island; on the east by the Hamlet of Middle Island; on the south by the Hamlet of Yaphank and the Hamlet of Medford; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Coram.
Gordon Heights is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Gordon Heights have a "Coram, NY 11727", "Middle Island, NY 11953" and "Medford, NY 11763" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): //www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html
Funny, the homestead section of "Gordon Heights" isn't even in Gordon Heights.
Missesfixit, the data you are looking at is not telling the true story. That street is not a good street to buy a house on, trust us.
