Well I agree with the 2nd half of that sentence. Unfortunately natural predators such as Wolves have been hunted to the point of extinction on LI.
I dont think LI has any wolves, and foxes are rare.
I think there also used to Coyotes here too, but they too were killed off.
Wolves have been driven out of most of the eastern U.S. over 100 years ago.
Coyotes are common from Westchester County northward (A few sightings in the Bronx).
Foxes are common throughout the state including large undeveloped parks in Queens/Staten Island/Bronx. I know for a fact that Alley Pond park in Queens has both red and grey fox.
We need to kill the deer on Long Island before they start killng motorists. We need to kill them before they become like the Canadian Geese that almost brought down a jet.
I wish people on Long Island would stop thinking they are in some natural habitat just because some wild creatures are occasionally in their view. This is an URBAN area and no dangerous wildlife need to live near us. Kill them before they are a menace to our roads.

Friend hit one in Sag Harbor 2 weeks ago..or as he puts it~The deer hit him.
A deer hit me as well. I was on Sound ave. and I heard a thump on the driver side door. I looked and saw a deer's head on my window. I'm just glad it didn't break the glass but it did do damage to the door.
