"In Patchogue!" was kind of meant to be sarcastic (sorry if it didn't come across). Obviously, I know that people of all religions live in Patchogue. Being a dyed-in-the-wool liberal, I chose Patchogue (in part) for its diversity. However, whenever I talk about Patchogue and diversity, people tend to automatically assume that "diversity" is code for Latinos.
I live near the one on Mowbray, except for the longest time I had no idea it was there (there wasn't a sign on the main road). It is in an unassuming little house near the corner of Roe and Waverly. Every Saturday I would see families walking toward the intersection, then I'd glance down to fiddle with the radio, and then "Poof!" -- they were gone. Into the 7-Eleven? No. The "antique" store? No...just
gone. Like the X-files. Years later, they put a menorah on the lawn in December and I caught a clue.
