FIOS hands down... the TV picture quality is amazing and their high speed internet is faster (in my opinion) and more reliable (based on my experience) than cable.

FIOS for me. TV picture quality is superior, set-top box response time is quicker, Internet speeds are always as advertised, and most importantly: I had problems over the winter with Cablevision Optimum Online. The TV picture would pixelate and the internet would drop whenever the temperature fell below freezing. I called for service, the first time they couldn't send a truck out until a week later, when the temperatures were above freezing. At that time the servce was fine so the tech checked the signal, determined everything was fine, and he replaced the connectors anyway to be sure. As soon as temperatures dropped, I had the same problem, and again they couldn't send someone out immediately. Once they came out, same story. The next time it happened, I finally took the cable modem and attached it directly to the cable bypassing all splitters. Same issue - clearly the problem was with the cable outside of the house. I called them up with my analysis and asked them if they could have someone check the lines outside the house and they insisted that they have to start within the house first. I told them we already went through this twice and couldn't get a tech out when the issue was happening. The rep sympathized with me but said there's nothing they could do - gotta wait til the next available appointment and hope the problem manifested itself.

At that point I went ahead and ordered FIOS, and got it installed and working before the Cablevision tech could come out and check out the problem while it was manigesting. Since FIOS exceeded all my expectations, I just took all the Cablevision boxes and dropped it off at the nearest customer service center.

They've been trying to get me back ever since.

amazing how they insisted the problem was inside the house after they had already worked on it. too bad for them.

i'm thinking i'll end up having to bring the boxes in too - i just called to ask a question and was left on hold for 18 minutes : |

FIOS by a mile. Cablevision has lesser picture quality, slower internet (and they will cap your speed if you do a lot of file sharing), lesser phone quality (VOIP vs. regular phone line) and awful customer service. I carry a lot of ill will toward that company from when they were the only game in town and treated their customers like dirt. By comparison, the guy who did my FIOS install was by far the nicest and most professional service person who has ever been in my home.

Sadly, FiOS is not available in West Islip or anywhere in the Town of Islip AFAIK so were stuck with Dolan and Cablevision for the foreseeable future. Cablevision sucks; the internet is always going down, the TV is getting all staticy, etc. As stated above, it gets worse when it's very cold and when it's very hot out.

I just switched to FIOS a few weeks ago. Overall, I am much more satisfied. The only negative is that Comcast offered more free on demand movies, but I can live with that. FIOS has much better picture quality - even with an older, not HD tv, and many more channels. And the price is much better. Comcast was the only game in town for a while, and gouged customers with regularly increasing rates. Now, since they have competition, they are willing to lower their rates substantially in order to keep customers. To me this just proves how much they were ripping people off before.

I live in Islip (not east or west) and have Fios. You sure it's not available where you are?
