Rockville Centre is a (incorporated) village, there aren't any parts outside the village boundaries that are still somehow in RVC.

You can live in Lakeview, Baldwin or South Hempstead and have a "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" address, though....which is what I think you mean. You can check individual properties by going to the Census Bureau's website and plugging in an address. A little box will come up underneath...scroll down to where it says "PLACE". If it says "Rockville Centre", you live in RVC...if it says one of the other three, you live in one of those places (but have an RVC address).

Confusing enough?

And as Walter taught us last year (complete with a very interesting map) there are small parts of the Village of RVC that do not actually have a RVC address.

Furtermore, about 1/4 of homes in the Village of RVC are zoned for Oceanside Schools. Meanwhile some in the hamlet of Oceanside do in fact go to RVC schools. Some in South Hempstead--and even a few blocks in the village of Hempstead---got to RVC schools.

additionally, I'm pretty sure there are a few blocks that are spitting distance of south side that are zoned for baldwin schools. weird...

Default For those who may not be familiar with Rockville Centre

JohnDrago, as others have already posted, there is a difference between the Village of Rockville Centre (2,196 acres) and places that have a "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" mailing address (2,529 acres), and, as you can observe from the acreage numbers, a place can have a "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" mailing address and not be in the Village of Rockville Centre (most of the places that have a "Rockville Centre, NY 11570 mailing address that are not in the Village of Rockville Centre are in the Village of Lynbrook and the Hamlet of Lakeview).

You can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) that house is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)

And, very importantly, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.

//www.city-data.com/forum/long-...you-think.html may help you understand the great geographic confusions caused by non-conforming ZIP Code postal zones.

For those who may not be familiar with Rockville Centre:

Rockville Centre is a village (incorporated in 1893) in the center of the Town of Hempstead, in the southwest part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Rockville Centre in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Lakeview and the Hamlet of South Hempstead; on the east by the Hamlet of South Hempstead and the Hamlet of Baldwin; on the south by the Hamlet of Oceanside; and, on the west by the Village of East Rockaway, the Village of Lynbrook and the Hamlet of Lakeview.

The Village of Rockville Centre has a different border than does the "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" mailing address and not be in the Village of Rockville Centre): most of the places that have a "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" mailing address that are not in the Village of Rockville Centre are in the Village of Lynbrook and the Hamlet of Lakeview.)

We're in the Village of RVC but we're zoned for Oceanside schools.

BTW, the census site is great.

Wes927, I do not recall posting such a map. If you can find the thread that is is on, post the URL for that thread and I'll see if I can capture the map and post it on this thread.

Meanwhile ...
