Apart from theories and anecdotal evidence, does anyone have facts that LI actually does have higher cancer incidence rate than avg US? Someone posted NY state stats, but not long island.

They may or may not...which is my point really...I don't necessarily think cancer comes to LI b/c of our water or necessarily the air...MOST (not all) of it is attributed to genetics and lifestyle...IMO. Could water and air pollutants play a part? Sure, but it's not the major factor.

People on LI are more genetically predisposed to cancer? Please explain.

Yeah I don't know if I agree with that. I'd say the Islands 200y/o history of agriculture definitely plays a part. Pollution from the city I'm a little more skeptical about. Mosquito spraying, PCB's and whatever we've been dumping in the soil, you find that and you find Breast, Pancreatic, Melanoma etc. Pequa, Roslyn, Riverhead and Huntington are all big hitters in my institution. Oh Rockville also.

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago. Thankfully it was caught early and after removing the tumor, chemo and radiation she's OK. She takes care of herself, exercises, eats well, never smoked, etc. and yet she gets cancer. No family history. We think it's related to the water. All the decades of pesticides, fertilizers and on and on dumped into the aquifiers it's no surprize. We're moving soon and this is one reason why.

I'd still stay near a metro center if I had CA. These small-time community hospitals just aren't ready to handle CA pt's the way large metro centers are. I can't tell you how many pt's I've had from PA in particular who have been told essentialy to go home and die comfortably then show up with us and are still kicking for quite some time. And I mean literally kicking not bedridden ghosts.

Right, when several family members get cancer do you blame the cluster on hereditary genes or outside carcinogens? Or could it be something in the middle, people with a genetic predisposition for cancer are getting sick when they may not have in a different environment. Tough to prove.

Yes, the decades of pesticides and fertilizers have a lot to do with it, but also watch what you're eating. All the crap they inject into the meat you eat has to end up somewhere. Go organic and/or go veggie, the cost may be worth it in the long run.
