So here's some pics of the re-gunite job maybe 1/2 way through. I always thought that ALL the gunite was removed, not just the hollow spots before bond coating. Good to know that only a few areas are bad.

And my pool guy wants to tile with slate for a more natural pond look(which fits in the setting here) and says that's all he's doing on the East End now. I said that buyers tastes out there are night and day with this area-far glitzier here and 'less Mr Natural country home' here. Should I use tiles or slate (which would match the bluestone coping)?

And to add to the question, now my pool guy has seal coated over the solid remaining existing tiles and says he will tile right over them. This sounds iffy. I've tiled on top of tile on floors and walls but with the ice factor grinding on the tiled tiles? He has a great reputation and has been around for 30 years and does high end Hamptons pools so he must be on top of his game.

I would have gone with tiles, anyway. I prefer the look of tile. Also, the slate is expensive in these parts. I don't know the cost in NY.

The slate was less than the tiles. I'm finding about $9-10' for buying the tiles only, + installing at $1400. or about 16.66'. And I decided on tiles since that's still the industry standard in this part of the Island. Our east, the tastes are more sophisticated so slate flies better there. They're rich enough to look poor in the Hamptons.
