First, let me say that I am Italian/American and that my name is Anthony.
But no, I am not a guido. I can't stand them. I think they give Long Island - especially Italian American's from Long Island, a bad name.

They don't seem to be going away - I've been seeing even young guys that are like 15 years old falling under the guido spell. Is there any way we can get rid of this culture?

Has anyone seen that Jon Stewart clip on Long Island becoming the 51st state? Do a youtube search for it if you haven't. This is how people view Long Island. I went to NYU, then lived in the city for a long time. I came back because this is where my family is, but I still can't believe guidos still exist. All my city friends think Long Island is exactly the way it's viewed in that Jon Stewart clip.

Where have you been lately? There was a whole thread on the Jon Stewart fiasco recently.

Sorry, but IMO guidos have a right to live too. So they're cheesy. Also, all guidos are not italians. Guido is more a state of mind than the state of a particular nationality.

I agree that they have a right to live and I am not sure which is worse - a long Island guido or brooklyn hipster, but whatever happened to just normal people? I've traveled all over the country and people just seem to be more down to earth elsewhere. Why does almost every girl need to be "glamor" and every guy need to be "guido" or "gangster. "

I missed the Jon Stewart thread. haven't been here in a while.

Deport them to Brooklyn and build a wall along the Queens/Nassau border.

We can call it the Anti Guido Protection Barrier

That's a great question. Hipsters take themselves, their music, and whatever it is they're reading WAY too seriously. Guidos are ridiculous but deep down I think most of them know this...they're just playing along to fit in with the rest of their crowd and to attract guidettes. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the guidos might actually be more self aware than the hipsters...which makes the hipsters "worse" IMO.

and in general, guidos are annoying but most of them are harmless. I'd rather have guidos living on my block than white trash, MS-13 members, or packs of wannabe hells angels.

I have often thought the same. All my friends fled LI for Brooklyn and the hipster culture there is insane. Go to Bedford Ave on a saturday night in williamsburg and your head will spin.

Hipsters aren't dangerous though. They will judge you on what you wear and what music you are into, but I am scared of Guidos - especially with driving. Road rage!

Guidos are a bi-product of materialism and vanity. Guess what LI'ers are known for? Materialism and vanity. From the North Shore snob talking on her cell phone while tailgaiting you in her Range Rover, to the Massapequa chest shaving tanning booth spikey haired guido..what you have are people too concerned with being "sexy" or having status.

I tend to prefer hipsters because I don't like guido music or culture, but there are definitely some who are way too into their scene and one-upping the next guy with their knowledge of obscure music and avant-garde kitsch. I got a little old for that stuff about ..5 years ago.

hipsters are ALL about status. Ultimately, however, their whole scene ends up being pretty boring more often then not. To your typical hipster, everyone who doesn't fit into their narrow view of how a person should look or act is either a frat boy or a republican. It's ridiculous.
