First, I have to say, that after moving away about 11 years ago and now moving back, and having raised my kids in Manorville, I am so saddened to see what has happened to downtown Riverhead. I have fond memories of Main street and my kids getting their new bikes there and Sears was MY Sears and Sweezy's was MY Sweezy's. I could not believe my eyes. The town is a slum now. Shame on the town pols for allowing Rt 58 to become filled with the corp big box stores and not plan for the heart of the town.
Second, if this is the way it is, then we need a PetSmart on Rt 58 ASAP!
Go to Yellow.com (yellow pages). Plug in "stores" for the business type and the zip code for Riverhead. The results page will let you choose from categories like supermarkets, department stores, drug stores, etc. When you click on the links that interest you, scroll down past the big store advertising for the local stores and their addresses.
I remember Rt 58 having little on it. All shopping was done down town at alot of Mom and Pops, and of course Swezeys and Sears. I think Dunkin Donuts has been at the circle on Rt 58 forever though- or maybe I'm not as old as I feel? LOL
