The verification form is to prevent fraud. Some people provide phony pay stubs.

Default Detailed salary verification form to come

It's been a few years since I worked in HR, but the mortgage companies will send a form directly to your employer to be filled out by someone with access to your payroll info. It asks for a breakdown of your base wages vs. overtime vs. bonus for the current year and past two years, as well as your likelihood of having continued OT/bonuses and/or staying employed by that company. Trust me, mortgage companies are not going to grant you thousands of dollars just based on a phone conversation.

The day before we closed, the bank called my employer one more time to make certain that I was still employed there...even after they got a few references to verify my employment a few days before that. They made sure that I was employed all the way to the last minute before closing. This happened a few weeks ago. When we closed on our first home, it was so much more cut and dry. I felt like I was cross-examined from multiple angles this time around. Needless to say it is over. You will be fine, I feel like what you are going through are just formalities. Every person at the bank involved in your mortgage has to go through protocol to cover themself in case god forbid you were to default on your mortgage. Don't worry, this too shall pass and soon you will be a homeowner Best wishes!!!
