I would not personally "defend" either company. With television, internet, phone and cell phone service companies you are basically picking which is the best out of evils here anyway. Cell phone companies are the worst. I have at this point had a plan with almost every cell phone company out there and all of them charge you for stuff they should not, have "dead zones", etc. I currently have Verizon for the cell phone and although I do have many less dead zones than I did with other companies I still have to call them occasionally to let them know I have an unlimited text plan and they have to back out the charges for the individual texts.
As far as Verizon Fios, Cablevision and DirectTV go, I believe each one knows that the others do not have very good customer service so there is no need for them to make their own much better. I believe that no matter which you have, you will be happy until you finally have a problem and have to start making the phone calls to get them to remedy the problem at which time you will once again be disgusted. I personally would be able to deal with an outage problem than a billing problem. I hate having to fight for my money and the phone calls for those problems are usually more annoying than having to call up saying that you are not getting a signal for the television.
agreed. so what if CV once required a contract, they dont anymore, and thats all that matters. they changed their deal for the better, while verizon has not.
what i wonder is, why does verizon require u to lock into a 2 year contract if they think their service is SO MUCH faster/clearer/better than CV? they are missing out on a lot of business because of that. even myself chose cable over fios for that one simple fact, that if i go with cable and dont like it, i can switch. if i go with verizon and dont like it or dont think its worth extra money, i CANT switch without paying $200. so i stayed away
Because they have invested so much in bringing their service to you, even if they use existing wiring inside the home, their tech spends all day hooking up a single house, at no cost to me. If I'm them, I wouldn't want the customer to leave me after just 30 days either. They made an investment all over many areas and they need to protect themselves. I actually find Verizon to be very good among any and all big companies. They charge crazy fees for something like kb usage on your cellphone if you dont' have a plan, but they were quick to credit me the majority of [my kid's] mis-use, without hassle. They've allowed me to take advantage of multiple offers at the same time, and offer free movie packages every few months (no contract renewal).
I work for another big company which I would easily bad mouth given the chance. I've had Verizon services for so long and they have yet to **** me off. Go figure. Can't say the same for Sprint, nor Cablevision, 2 that come to mind quickly.
I've had both (first Cablevision, then Fios) and I would pick Fios again hands down. The customer service line is better for Cablevision than verizon but I rarely have to use it and that hassle is worth it for MUCH better internet and TV service. I remember not going online between 7pm and midnight (primetime) because it was soooo slow. Also, dedicated fiber connection to the house is the move for the future. As speeds increase, fiber users will be ahead of the curve in terms of having access to those speeds.
it's a shame they did not appreciate their long time customers until they had competition.
exxxxxactly. Anyone remember OOL's bandwidth caps (which they didn't admit to)? Why don't they do it anymore? Yeah.
See what honesty and delivering on promises gets you... I'm praising a company I have no affiliation with whatsoever, because they are that good, and Cablevision is not only inferior, but they have been scumbags and are now begging for business. I've told them "I got this call last week" 3 or 4 times already.
I will say that with Cablevision I have absolutely no problems with internet at all regardless of what time of day or night. It is extremely fast and I can stream music or video with no stoppage. Everything works quick and well. Perhaps this is different from area to area?
My in-laws have DSL and it is very slow. I bring my laptop that I use at home there and it is definitely a noticeable difference in the speed. Does DSL differ from area to area as well? I really have no idea. I can only say that my cable is much quicker than their DSL.
Switched from CV to Fios back in April, and couldn't be happier. Kept getting pixelation problems with CV and had techs at my house on a monthly basis, to no avail. Plus they charged me a service call on a couple of occassions saying it was the pre-existing wiring in the house. With Fios, I have a clearer picture, more channels, more free on demand options. Internet & Phone seem to be comparable, but TV alone is worth it. Plus they have a very generous referral offer. $25/service ($75 for all 3 service) for both the referer & referee. Anyone interested in a $75 bill credit, send me a DM.
^ cable is supposed to be faster than all DSL. Note the price difference too.
You are correct. However I have had Optimum since the '90's. It used to be very fast and then I noticed as the years went on it got slower and slower. And it wasn't a problem with my computer equipment or their lines.
A year and a half ago, I switched over to DSL (high speed) due to costs as I don't use the internet much anymore except research and I'm not on it every night. I didn't notice any speed difference. Even when I visit my parents and update their computer with patches, I see no difference.
This tells me one of two things. Either they cap the speed or since it is coax and the same line is used for tv and internet, their bandwidth is strained.
