We're moving from E. Nassau/W. Suffolk to Way Out E. Suffolk. It's a bit more rustic this way out, which is nice, but we're out of the network. Need a recommendation for *great* Pediatrician and OB. Will be living near Shoreham/WR area but willing to go as far west as Stony Brook/Port Jefferson.

Also, if you live "way out" east in this area, where is the best, closest hospital (specifically to give birth)??

Thanks!

I would go to Stony Brook for the birth.

My son's ped. is in Huntington, so I can't make a recommendation for you.

The guy we used to use in Smithtown dumped us because we wouldn't follow his/the AMA/ACP/pharmaceutical lobbies vaccination schedule to a tee, so he'll get nothing but bashing from me.

Is Bayshore too far? LI Womens Healthcare is great...I use a PA there named Christine. Unfortunately I'm not sure if she only does gyno or if she does OB as well but they are a great practice. I go to the one in Bellmore but they have a Bayshore office too.

Did you end up finding a doctor that would work with you on vaccine schedules?

Yes. Remember, we weren't saying "no vaccines", just that we didn't want him getting 3 shots at a time, and only the shots required for him to eventually attend school. The doctor tried to strong arm my wife one day into giving him 3 shots, 2 of which were unecessary, when I wasn't there (I'm much better at arguing), but she didn't give in, and a week later we got a letter saying that they "could no longer provide care" for our son.

The ones who dropped us were Smithtown Pediatrics. Don't go there unless you want to follow their rules lock step.

I'm having a baby in january and I don't like the CDC schedule. I would like to find a pediatrician that would work with me: how many vaccines in one visit, when and/or age, type of vaccine, which pharmaceutical company made the vaccine, etc.

Did you find any doctors that would follow an alternate schedule (e.g., Dr. Sears, published)?

Thanks for the suggestions all!

Re: Vax: our Ped. (Dr. Cavanaugh, Huntington Medical Group, E. Pulaski Rd.) was very flexible. I too chose no more than 2 shots at a time and delayed some. He told me he honestly believes in following the AMA/ACP guidelines, but answered questions and always accommodated us. Dr. Cavanaugh at Huntington Medical Group on E. Pulaski. Sadly, we have to leave there...

Best of luck to you Orchid! If it's your first, you're in for a world of joy (and some sleepless nights)

P.S. I found Dr. Sear's book on Alternative Vax Schedule ("The Vaccine Book" I think) very informative.
