This is a prety dumb question but I am moving to Massapequa this week and had purchased some 34 gallon garbage pails. I just read on the town of oyster bay website that they will not pick up garbages pails that are over 32 gallons in size.
Is this strictly enforced or do you think I will get by?
I am assuming it will be okay but you never know with certain towns in Long Island...
They do have a 50 pound weight restriction per container and overall limit per household. TOB did not pick up my garbage once because I had loaded it with bags of old sand from my backyard sandbox, and it became really heavy. I don't think the garbage collectors can tell the difference between a 32 and 34 gallon container.
i give the garbage guys credit but one guy wakes me up at 5:45 in the morning when the garbage is too heavy for him (and believe me, if i can take it to the curv with ease, he should have no problem) but he gives out a loud "uuuuuggghhhhhh" when he attempts to lift the garbage.

what is this overall limit? # of separate items? After a house cleaning, it was easy to throw maybe 5-7 medium boxes out there and some small shrubbery... they still took it.
theres not really a limit to how many items you can throw away because Ive thrown away top to 10 garbage pails and about 20 boxes at one shot and they took them. its just the weight issue that keeps them from taking items.
In TOB if you put something too big and/or heavy on the curb, they'll call another truck in to pick it up. It's crazy, they really will take anything.
When we first moved into the house we did some remodeling. I was talking to a neighbor saying that I might need to get a dumpster. He said to just put everything on the curb..... So I put 2 car lengths of garbage out one morning, including 8' lumber, doors, toilet, sink, bags of busted drywall, etc. They took everything no problem. They got a nice tip for that.....
