Another example of NEWSDAY mistaking the community name in a place's mailing address for the community in which that place is located:

Cops: Robbery victim was fake NYPD cop

In the first paragraph, the article states, "A Manhattan man who claimed he was a New York City Police officer after he reported getting robbed outside a West Hempstead nightclub ... "

According to the Census Bureau's online address search function, located at 514 Hempstead Turnpike, the Tabu nightclub is in Garden City South ("West Hempstead, NY 11552" mailing address).

In other words, if you want to send a letter to the Tabu nightclub, you would address this letter to "West Hempstead, NY 11552"; however, if you want to actually go to the Tabu nightclub, you would go to Garden City South.

It is important to understand that Garden City South is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address.

For those who may not be familiar with Garden City South:

Garden City South is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northwest section of the Town of Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Garden City South in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north and east by the Village of Garden City; on the south by the Hamlet of West Hempstead; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Franklin Square.

Garden City South is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Garden City South have a "Garden City, NY 11530", "West Hempstead, NY 11552" and "Franklin Square, NY 11010" mailing address.

Newsday is such a butt-rag, I bought it on Sunday and felt stupider after reading it. The Pennysaver has better reporting. Why does it exist? W-why?

Default For those who may not be familiar with Garden City Park

Parliament, Garden City Park can be hard to find because there is no "Garden City Park, NY ?????" mailing address and all of Garden City Park has a "New Hyde Park, NY 11040" mailing address.

For those who may not be familiar with Garden City Park:

Garden City Park is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southwest part of the Town of North Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County, along the North Hempstead/Hempstead town line.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Garden City Park in the Town of North Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Herricks; on the east by the Village of Mineola; on the south by the Village of Garden City, Town of Hempstead (the North Hempstead/Hempstead town line); and, on the west by the Hamlet of North New Hyde Park.

When you type in the address into Google maps or GPS it will find it by the SOCIALLY accepted town name. I bet to wager all of their legal paper work uses West Hempstead as well. Honestly, it doesnt matter what it technically is.

Your address can be wrong because if you really want to come down to it your land has markers such as plot numbers blah blah blah. Its not important.

This is coming from someone who live in a Westbury post office address, went to East Meadow schools, Lived in a place really named Salisbury in a Levitt house. I say im from Westbury because Im normal and that is what a normal person would call it.

These threads and Walter always doing this is very annoying. Why doesnt anyone tell him to stop?

Google maps and GPS use the postal town name, which can be very confusing because the majority of places in Nassau County are not in the community whose name is in that place's mailing address.

//www.city-data.com/forum/long-...you-think.html may help you understand the great geographic confusions caused by non-conforming ZIP Code postal zones.

If this was a social chat board, then the use of colloquial geography might be OK; but, this is mainly a real estate forum, and actual geography should be the preferred geography.

You lived in a house in Salisbury ("Westbury, NY 11590" mailing address).

Only someone who lived in the Village of Westbury can correctly state that they're from Westbury.

Unfortunately, there are many, actually too many, who think like you, and they, and you, should sue their, and your, school district for failure to properly educate about local geography.

Since you want to go against my schooling( childish?) I will school you on the error of your ways.

Just because you have a fetish for obscure factoids does not mean I did not learn in school. In fact, I learned much about Long Island geographical features and they are quite fascinating.

Wow, I am right and you are wrong!
