Hey. I was wondering the same thing. I haven't heard anything. Ny needs an unemployment extension. Things are really bad here. Let me know if you hear anything and I will do the same.
We currently have the highest ratio of job seekers to openings since they started recording this statistic after World War II, a ratio of 6:1. In more "normal times" it is more like about 2:1 (as it was more or less from 2003-2007). At that ratio, for many it is not a job market, but a job "lottery".
While I can understand the concern about it being a disincentive to look for work over time, in a situation like current times, not doing so could actually make things worse. Think of how much worse the economy would be if the lack of these funds with no jobs to obtain lowers demand even worse than it is now, producing an almost "death spiral"?
That said, I do think if it's extended, it will probably be the last one......I mean 92 weeks is almost 2 years and who knows how different things will be 2 years from now. Though again, I think doing this prevents a much worse situation and is a much better (and cheaper) "stimulus" than the other things being done.
The Max. UE benefit in NYS is $405/wk. The Federal Govt. is currently adding $25/wk to that. That comes to a max of $22,360/yr. If you know anyone who live on that sitting on their butt and not look for a job I'd be surprised.
I was on UE for two weeks in March when I got laid off. I was lucky enough to find temp. work at a 40% pay cut. It was still better than receiving $430/wk in UE.
I'm still trying to land a permanent job five months later. No one is hiring. That's why they should be extending UE benefits.

And you know what, plenty of people who might have signed up at temp agencies will not because they end up clearing almost or close to what they would at lower paying temp job.
Not thinking that getting their foot in the door as a temp could lead to permanent and more money.
If you can make more than 22K a year why take a low paying job? Or even get a job as bartender or a server.
Someone who was making 50K a year will not even look or accept a job making 30K a year when they get UE for almost two years.
Why take a $14 an hour temp job when you can clear almost $11 for doing nothing.
I am sorry for people who are out of work, but UE is suppossed to be temporary assitance. I don't call 92 weeks temporary.
