Yep, it stinks - my youngest is in Kindergarten in the Northport/E. Northport district and we drop her off at Laurel Ave school in the morning for SCOPE Extended-K, then they bus her to Dickenson Ave School for afternoon-K, then she stays there for the SCOPE after school program until we pick her up. Dickenson doesn't have morning SCOPE, so we have to do the two-school deal.
The cost for both combined is about $500 a month. Slightly more than half if you only need the extended-K program and are available to pick up your child right after school.
Your best source for real time info is the cops. I don't know for sure where KingsPark falls, but it is likely the 2nd or 4th precinct of the Suffolk County PD. Stop in and speak with the desk officer and ask his honest opinion on the area. At the very least he/she will be able to offer up areas to avoid. Stop in, don't call.
