I knew this stuff existed. All the stuff I posted about anti-semitism in Bellmore, all true. It's happening all over Long Island...and it's really very sad.
Interesting post. So the black churches have a valid reason to be angry towards "Whites".
My family never enslaved blacks. My Great Grandparents came here from Ireland and now defunct countries that were invaded by the Soviet Union.
So "Blacks" are angry at me? Why?
I think your problem is you are a racist. Only a racist would be angry at an entire race of people for the actions of a few. Kind of like those Nazi folks you are referring to.
But like you said, we can't be too quick to judge each other. Unless they are "White", huh?
Unfortunately, those Nazi guys do have the same right to free speech as those Black Churches. It's kinda in the Constitution and everything.
oooh... i just read this post... good stuff... come on scott, us micks have a reason to be angry too!
Unfortunately, I've been privvy to a lot of OVERT racism and antisemitism since moving to Lindenhurst. I never really experienced it much in Westchester. I think people see my overly white Irish exterior and see it as perfectly acceptable to make comments out regarding other races and religions. The things I've heard people say out loud simply waiting in a doctors office have made me incredibly uncomfortable, and I've heard people say REALLY racist things about Obama at the local 7-11 after the election. My Husband is Jewish and in casual conversation people have made comments to him like "Watch out for those freaking Jews out on the bay" (I guess they don't realize he is Jewish!). It kind of makes me not want to live here... and I didn't really expect it on LI.
I know it can be like that anywhere, but I've lived all over the Tri-State area and have never seen such an outward display since living in Lindenhurst.

That's the bigger point, isn't it?
Native people have a long history of not being nice to newcomers, be they Jews, Irish, blacks, Italians, chinese, etc.
I don't really like you though because, you know, you're a mick.
To equate this with Nazis' rights to express themselves -- all in the name of freedom of speech -- reveals ignorance and arrogance and a willful invalidation of history and what is morally right.
With all due respect, your logic is flawed. Attempting to silence neo-Nazis is a Nazi-like tactic in and of itself. This is America; a nation ruled by the Constitution, which, like it or not, grants these people the same freedom as us. Whether you like what they say or not or whether you find it morally reprehensible or not is irrelevant (I don't disagree with you, though, my family members were murdered by the Nazis in Italy during WWII).
