I received great help from many of you guys on where to purchase a home (from S. Huntington to Centerport, Northport, Melville) but what about Commack? What is the general conensus on that area? Is it mostly professionals and families? Any illegal housing/day laborer issues?

I moved out here to Commack about 5 years ago. Great school district. No day labor issues or illegal housing. Being closer to the parkway will cut out time in your commute. A great place to live.

Commack is a great area. There are no bad neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods are more affluent and some are more modest. It is close to wonderful shopping, for ex. Macys and many supermarkets. It is between the Smithtown Mall, the Walt Whitman Mall and not too far from the Bay Shore Mall. It is near the Sunken Meadow Parkway which feeds into the LI Expressway, Northern State and Souther State. The schools have a wonderful reputation.
The taxes could be lower. That is the only downside. Everyone who lives in Commack loves Commack.

Commack is a nice place. There are a wide variety of homes. Taxes are a bit higher then surrounding school districts and there is no downtone per se, but overall it is a good place to live.

The Hamlet of Commack is partly in the Town of Huntington and partly in the Town of Smithtown.

A map of the Hamlet of Commack in the Town of Huntington and the Town of Smithtown, Sufolk County:

The Hamlet of Commack has a different border than does the "Commack, NY 11725" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Commack, NY 11725" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Commack and a place can have other than a "Commack, NY 11725" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Commack): places that have a "Commack, NY 11725" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Commack are in the Hamlet of Elwood and the Hamlet of East Northport in the Town of Huntington and in the Hamlet of Smithtown in the Town of Smithtown; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Commack that have an "East Northport, NY 11731" and "Kings Park, NY 11754" mailing address.

Commack is a very nice area. I would definitely consider living there and the schools.

Commack is nice.
It's a little congested due to having a few major roads in or around it, but off the beaten path is very quiet and nice.

Biggest issues are cost....high home prices plus high taxes. If you want a downtown you aren't far from Northport, Smithtown, or Huntington.

I agree. Commack is a nice area to buy a home. Not too far north or east, and not a bad commute to the city.

If you decide to look in Commack, check out the "Candy Section". So named because of the names of the street, i.e. Candy Ln, Marshmallow Dr, Caramel Rd, Peppermint Rd, etc. Wide streets, large pieces of property, nice homes...
and not too far from Jericho Tpk and the /Sunken Meadow/Sagtikos Pkwy, which will take you to the other highways.
