Whats really different is that you can now buy fairly high quality heroin in low priced packets, as low as 5 dollars. You can't even buy pot in that denomination and pot doesn't kill you on your parents kitchen floor.
For crying out loud!
EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING is going down in quality and up in price nowadays.
In high school in the 80's, no one talked about heroin, unless they were making a joke about Keith Richards. There was plenty of acid, lots of pot, and maybe a little coke, but that was it.
During my tenure at Stony Brook U, I know of 2 students od'ing around 1992/93 on heroin. That's when the drug came back into sheik with all the grunge stupidity, but even then it was the really "alternative" kids.
Now you have cheerleaders doing heroin, which means it's mainstream, and more prevalent in my opinion. The stigma of injecting kept people away from it, now people are sniffing and snorting it and they don't start injecting until they are really hooked and chasing the high.
Some conspiracy theorists said the crack epidemic was a targeted strike at black neighborhoods by the government aimed at wiping out blacks, .
"They" also said the government created HIV/AIDS to wipe out gays and minorities.
However, I do remember quite clearly in the early/mid-80s people saying how the Russian leaders told the American leaders years & years before that they will wipe America out from the inside out and it will start with your youth. They took that and somehow connected it to the crack epidemic and the "theory" was that foreign governments were trying to destroy America by "planting" crack amongst the youth of America. (I'm guessing these same people never heard of Freebase that had been going on for years and years before that!)

Pot no longer comes in "nickel" bags?? I think you're wrong.
Okay, I see what you are getting at. Like how Laci Peterson attracted so much attention when she disappeared ... yet there were other young women (minority, not gorgeous, etc.) who disappeared in the same general area at the same time and did not get any media attention.
Thank you!!! I'm glad you finally saw what I was getting at!

Well I have it from a pretty reliable source that thats the case. Unless you have a dealer who's out of date or your getting pretty bad stuff. My brothers wife wouldn't let him leave the house with over 4 dollars because you could get heroin with 5.

I am confused. I thought your bro who od'd on heroin was a teenager still in high school. It's crazy that the stuff is so cheap around here. There are a lot of places where heroin cannot be bought at any price because it simply isn't available (doesn't stop opiate addicts though, they just use pills aka "hillbilly heroin").

The same thing happened in the 80s/90s with the crack-cocaine epidemic. If you remember, Cocaine used to be the drug that only people with "money" could get their hands on ---$90-$120/gram and you couldn't buy it in lower denominations. Then, the crack epidemic started and people were able to buy vials of crack for $5. The same thing's happening now with heroin.

No, my brother was 26. The vicodin and other things started around high school. Methadone is also easy to come by.
