Been getting some pretty bad vibes about Post Ave lately. Getting so bad I won't walk down it day or night.
There has been a rash of crimes that have been in the news. This one happened right where I wait for the bus when I get off the train at night (to avoid walking down Post Ave), but it's not a safe spot to wait either.
I can't say I'm surprised, it's very dark and nobody's around, even at 8:30pm at night.
I'm also afraid to even open my windows at night and keep them locked, and I guess for good reason. Car Stolen In Westbury Burglary
The Village recently posted this notice about the crime situation, apparently alot of cars are broken into as well. RESIDENT ADVISORY – Car break-ins
Please be advised that there has been an up-tick in overnight car break-ins in the community over the past several weeks. This activity seems to occur with more frequency during the summer months each year. In many cases, the cars that are subject to being broken into are left unlocked, or where valuables (radios, GPS devices, phones, etc.) are left in plain view inside the car.
You can avoid the inconvenience and loss of property that occurs in these instances by taking a few simple precautions:
• Where possible, park cars on driveways
• In all cases, keep all car doors and windows shut and locked
• Make sure that all valuable property is kept out of plain sight
You should report all such incidents to the Nassau County Police Department (call 911). In addition (not in lieu), you can also report these events to the Village (our code enforcement hotline number is 333-1869) so we can track and liaison with NCPD.
We have discussed this rash of incidents w/ NCPD and have advised our code enforcement personnel to be on the look-out for suspicious behavior when making their rounds.

Mayor
Someone posted a comment on their FB about "too much activity on the streets at night, more patrols & code enforcement" are needed. Aint that the truth. The loitering is spreading all over the place. Why would anyone want a condo at The Horizon by the train station when you have to look at this?
Basically my town is becoming a ghetto. I know I must leave, but I also cannot keep quiet while The Mayor and all these other people say Westbury is revitalized. Does this look revitalized to you? The town is dead at night, except for loitering men.
I will keep reminding folks not to make the mistake of moving to Westbury. The Space is barely alive with hardly any shows, His & Her's across the street appears to be out of business, and the only places doing well are the 6 bodegas we have in town. And now crime is becoming more & more of a problem. It has become a ghetto.
Can't speak to the other stuff. But car breakins are common everywhere. It's a very easy way to get some cash and it's a bonus if something of value was left in the car. This has been going on for years. Our car was tossed in garden city 15 years ago. It's an ongoing problem there and people have becomef ed up enough the past 5 years to report it to police. Happens here where I live too.
Also, you seem to complain about Westbury a lot. Why don't you just move?
He can't just move because of services he receives. I used to say the same thing to him, but he has a legitimate reason he can't just pick up and move.
Carry a box cutter with a VERY sharp blade when you walk around there from now on. You'll feel safer. You will also give out stronger and more confident vibes to the criminals.
I'm sorry, but those pictures don't really show anything devious. Maybe it does look seedy, but it's not captured that way in these pictures. I hope things improve for you and you're able to move, since you're so unhappy. Good luck

Well its one thing seeing the photos, quite another living here and dealing with these sights the minute you step out your door. And yes, I hope I'm able to move soon. If it was up to me I'd have been out already, after seeing the Theater flop, there really is no hope for this town.
I just moved to the neighborhood. I'm near cambridge area and jefferson st. This past weekend, I heard a hell lot of pops between 11pm and 2am. Couldn't damn sleep. Around the few weeks of July 4th weekend, I thought it was M80s or similar and didn't care much about it. But, this past weekend, it was unbearable because it kept going off every 15 minutes or so.
Anyone else near this area? I'm curious wth it was. Surprised no one called the cops because it was going for close to an hour.
