Back to the topic at hand, Mangano named Assemblyman Rob Walker as his Deputy CE. Rob Walker is the son of Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Rose Marie Walker, who just ran for and won the legislative seat being vacated by Mangano.

Just out of curiosity, in the past decade, have any active Nassau police officers been permitted to keep the police job after being arrested, charged with a felony and subsequently convicted of a lesser crime?

Full Deck,

Usually, it doesn't even get to the "arrested" part of that equation. Cops will always "look the other way" when a fellow officer is in trouble UNLESS we are talking about a heinous crime.

However, for DUI's and wife beatings, they aren't going to book their fellow officers. That's just not reality in that type of fraternity. That's why women's support groups complain so loudly about cops getting away with beating their wives at such high rates.

This didn't pass the smell test with me when I first heard about it. How can Assemblyman Walker have the FULL TIME job of Chief Deputy CE while also representing his Assembly district. I know that on paper, being a NYS Assemblyman or Senator is a "part-time" job, but in reality, they spend at least 3 days a week in Albany while the State Legislature is in session. I have a pretty good relationship with a former Nassau DCE and that job was almost 24/7. The Chief DCE is basically the person running the county while the elected CE is out glad handing and on the rubber chicken circuit.

I'm wondering how Rob Walker will be able to handle both jobs. Personally, I think that he's going to have to resign that Assembly seat sooner rather than later and focus on his DCE duties, otherwise both his Assembly district and the County will suffer.
