Elmont isn't so good. Valley Stream is good but tough to find a decent house at that price with all the people wanting to move there. Franklin Square would be a bit pricy. You could find something in Levittown but no basement

Elmont is just fine. I've been here for almost a year and I like it. I would stay away from the area by the racetrack though, but the areas by meacham ave and the one by Dutch Broadway are nice.

I carpooled with a coworker who grew up in Elmont, and we all met at her parents' house there right off of Hempstead Tpk; on the border of Franklin Square. She said it used to be a much nicer town, but now it's not so nice. She said her block is ok, but there are a lot of illegals moving in and there are way more rentals. Said she wouldn't live there nowadays. Even if some blocks are ok, it's the schools I'd be concerned about sending my future kids to.

Exclamation dont buy in Elmont!

I moved out of Elmont in 98. The town was bad then and from what i hear has became worse! The crime rate and schools reputation is something you might want to look into. The location is good since you work in the city, but make sure you lock up the house good before you leave for work!

I wouldn't buy in any Hamlet/Village of Nassau that did not have direct and reliable LIRR access... (the West Hempstead and Oyster Bay line are no gos) Elmont residents would have to drive to either Valley Stream or Floral Park... The station isnt that far... But parking becomes an issue
