We taught everyone in our family from the LI area how to drive up in ice and snow up here in Erie County.

What you had doesn't even qualify for a blizzard ( my SIL got 26")....... we get that as normal in just Lake Effect, every year. A blizzard is when the house is covered under drifts.... look up the Blizzard of '77 and the November snowstorm of 2001. The first left our house under snow and drift left the street with 13 ft. marks on the poles for the highest drifts (painted by our crews taking the snow down) and the other left 6 ft. walls of snow that Amherst was chopping down in our way on the way home.

If you live up here, other than in the city of Buffalo ( which is horrendous plowing), you are plowed out in a day.

BLIZZARD '10

Brookhaven gets an A.

They did an OUTSTANDING job this time out.
Seems like they were better prepared since the last storm.

Good Job John Rouse.

True but no less roads and the snow was MUCH wetter/heavier.

Bottom line they got a better jump.

Look when they fail Im quick to fling poo but they did a great job.

All Ill say is that Sachem was closed today.Rocky Point/Miller Place wasnt.

You guys beat me to it...what a difference between these two storms.

I must have seen a plow go by 10 times during this storm...and even the tiny side streets were getting attention.

The reasons why the improved service?
- 16" this one vs. 27" in Dec
- Weekday vs. weekend (Dec 19-20) means less OT and more plow operators in general??
- We changed over to light rain from noon to about 3pm allowing the plows to get ahead? The Dec storm was more relentless.

- Absolutely stunning forecast ?? :-)

Either way the recovery from this one was a a cakewalk.
