We are looking to spend 700-800 on a house. Where would be the best place to live? We have two small children. I have heard that Garden City has more of a community feel, but others have said that RVC also has a community feel depending on where you live in town. I have found a house that I love in RVC but am not sure if a "better house" is worth leaving Garden City. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

You're going to get some for RVC and some for GC.................
You can't lose either way...so why not go with what you love?

Thanks all. It is so exciting, yet a little daunting, to buy your "real" house where you plan to live for a long time! Don't want to make any mistakes and not really knowing the areas so well it is so great to have forums like this to get extra info.
Hi. What did you decide?? We currently live in Lynbrook (since 2004) and are looking to move to RVC or perhaps Garden City (RVC is better for wife's commute). Any insight would be helpful. Are there different sections in GC that should be avoided completely??
We are looking to spend not more than 1M, but could go a little higher if we found something that we loved.
One area of RVC that I've always thought would be nice to live in is the area that runs along Penninsula Blvd across from Hempstead Lake State Park. I like the thought of being able to live in an upscale residential community and then cross one of those nearby walking bridges that lead directly into the forested trails of the park...It'd be fun to take walks through and go jogging and yet still be so close to home.

Looks like a giant Middle Finger.
Both areas are expensive, but really nice. You will get a lot more house for your money in RVC; But GC is a little nicer and has one of the best SD's on LI.
