Being new to purchasing a house, what is closing with possession? And how do you go about doing that?

Given the circumstances surrounding closing, I can't say I blame you for putting the stuff out! He left a mess behind, doesn't have the house cleaned, and wants you storing his stuff for an unspecified amount of time? Hmphh!

After you sign the papers it's to late,he should have been more responsible. No way I'm going to keep track of someones crap after I move in.I would offer to sell the laptop back to him,if not it goes on craigslist.

After making you jump through hoops I would have had a little bonfire in the backyard with his junk and bought some ball park franks and beers to celebrate.

I have to agree a bit. Yes, he should have never left it behind but was there such a huge amount of stuff that it warranted disposal in 8 days? Did it block exits in case of a fire?

Of course there is no reason to feel responsible to 'watch' his stuff but the OP threw away a laptop, among other things. Yes, the guy was a little sloppy and should have never left hist stuff behind. Personally I wouldn't have thrown his crap away.
