Afternoon Everyone,

Just looking for a little direction... Hubby and I want to relocate from the Bronx to Nassau County, Long Island for His Job, we've got 1 chlld going to 5th grade amd the other going to 7th. We need the absolute Best school district that we can afford (300K max). I'm concerned about diversity and safety for my children.. They have been in the same small school since kindergarten and they would really be considered a little "Square". I work by Water street in the city, so I would be commuting daily. I'm completely out of sorts when it comes to Long Island, so any Help you Good people may offer would be a big help, Thank You!!

300K? yikes, that's not gonna get you "great" schools. Mediocre at best.
Nassau is pretty pricey, especially for the higher regarded school districts.

It's not 2006, 300k will buy you something very nice...in a VERY GOOD school district, although not one where everyone's parents drive a Land Rover and are freemasons.

Try Valley Stream. I personally prefer the areas east of Central Ave.

300K is the lower end of Levittown / Hicksville. But I would recommend looking there, there might be a few homes below 300k.

300k maximum aint gonna buy something nice, it's gonna be a shanty shack with green shag and paneling, orange formica countertops and pea soup green appliances, oh, and the pink bathroom fixtures. Asbestos shingles on the outside too with old woodframe singlepane windows.
Unless they pursue short sales and foreclosures.
Maybe I'm totally wrong, but I just don't see 300K buying something liveable in a "good" school district.

I just did a search on MLSLI.com...

Nassau only, $200k-$300k

Removed Freeport, Hempstead, Roosevelt, Uniondale, Inwood/Lawrence and Westbury cuz I would never recommend one of those areas to anyone planning on having their kids attend public schools.

298 RESULTS

Each is obviously in a good school district (cuz I removed the junk)....you don't think there is even one livable home out of those?

Somehow, I seriously doubt you would be suggesting Cryme-danch to the McManus or Salvatore family moving here from Poughkeepsie with a 300k budget....
