Default For those who may not be familiar with Salisbury

No part of the Village of Westbury, the only "Westbury", is in the East Meadow Union Free School District. The Hamlet of Salisbury, which is mostly "Westbury, NY 11590" mailing address is in the East Meadow Union Free School District.

For those who may not be familiar with Salisbury:

Salisbury is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northeast section of the Town of Hempstead, in the central part of Nassau County, where the Town of Hempstead converges with the Towns of North Hempstead and Oyster Bay.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Salisbury in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of New Cassel in the Town of North Hempstead (the Hempstead/North Hempstead town line); on the east by the Hamlet of Hicksville in the Town of Oyster Bay (the Hempstead/Oyster Bay Town line) and the Hamlet of Levittown; and, on the south and west by the Hamlet of East Meadow.

Salisbury is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: while most places in the Hamlet of Salisbury have a "Westbury, NY 11590" mailing address, a small slice in the east part of the hamlet have a "Levittown, NY 11756" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): Excellent Long Island Geographic Resource

I just moved to East Meadow myself (near Prospect). The advice I got in moving in was that South of Hempstead Tpke is generally nicer than North side, but all-in-all it's a relatively safe neighborhood. Even down by Richmond Rd (probably the nicest part of East Meadow) people have alarm systems, so I wouldn't let that deter you.

The real question is if you want to be that close to the major road that is Hempstead Tpke. Also, keep in mind that if the house has been difficult to sell for so long, it will probably difficult to resell if you don't plan on staying for a long time. Take your time looking. I spent 2 years looking for the right place and I'm happy I did.

Burglary is up a bit in E Meadow.
Then again, it is up across the board in Nassau.

Why the house prices in EM is lower than many other areas?
I heard about leaky basement problems for some EM houses.
Is it real? or just ...
