Any potential catalysts that could have a positive and lasting impact on Long Island? I'll go first - how about sending more money back to NY State and reducing property taxes by a like amount on a consistent basis - no one time reductions. Here's another: allow residents to deduct the full amount of their outrageous property and state taxes with out having to be subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax.

I think that would be enough to jump-start the economy. I won't hold my breath - I know it's a pipe dream.

Alternative minimum is a killer for people on LI. That should be repealed.

Yikes - it's a good thing some of the folks with views on this forum are not in public office

I agree with dman - AMT blows! I'm getting hammered this year

They are the middle classes only salvation and they will be triumphant in November. The good people of this country will be taking back the government from the racist apologists of the Democratic party.

I've been getting slammed with AMT since I got married. Marriage does not pay from a tax perspective. Buying the house, made it much much worse.

Yes, because we know that decades of Democratic leadership at the city and state level have really helped out NY. Nice.

Look, I don't live in a fantasy world where I think either the Dems or Republicans in NY are honest. They are all pretty corrupt.

Until someone hear stands up against the special interests, the endless layers of government bureaucracy, and the teacher/police unions, nothing will change.

Our Savior Obama isn't going to do anything for NY State. You really think he's going to repeal the AMT?? LMAO

Don't you understand? Obama thinks that if you pay the AMT, you are "rich" and have to pay a greater burden of taxes. At a time, when he wants to expand the social welfare net in this country and as he is running up our debt, do you really think he can afford to repeal the AMT?

Long Islanders will continue to be raped by the AMT.

Scott Brown's recent Boston Tea Party was just the beginning. I can't wait for November.
