We have a board that is physically fighting one another- they can't come to a decision about closing schools, which they so desperately need to do. The Hub & The Pines are coming soon. Our rankings at East are tanking every year. We once were a pretty solid district but not so much anymore. Is anyone else in the district concerned?? Sadly we think it's time to get out ...
Sachem sucks ! the only thing they can figure out is how to keep jacking up property taxes to pay their overpaid salaries.
Sachem's rankings and test scores are among the lowest around.
Sachem sports stinks, no pro players produced in decades. Hardly any championships won in any sport.
Sachem female teachers sexually abusing male students. Unfortuntely their probably doing the same thing to some other students, just in another school district that hired them with some sham background investigation.
Sachems scandals, politics, and the good old boys club in hiring their own family and friends.
Soon it will be even more overcrowded with all this new construction. so guess whos taxes are going up again.
But rest assured all the teachers that live in the area can afford to stay here, as they ride the taxpayer funded sachem gravy train.
Sounds like it's time to elect a new board and hire a new superintendent - get people who know how to reorganize a district and communicate with the taxpayers. Makes coming to a compromise a lot easier.

Just wanted to say, I think Cat's assessment is spot-on. If the in-fighting can't be stopped, it'll only end up hurting the kids, which is a real shame.
We just started house hunting in that general part of Suffolk, and I'm keeping us away from Sachem because it's so unclear which way that district is going to go.
Our sports actually don't stink. Our sports are fantastic but that's not going to make our kids do well in life. It's a good activity and keeps them off of the streets. Sayville is on austerity right now so even our neighboring town is in conflict. Infoseeker I will tell you the elementary and middle schools are good, solid schools. East is where is gets questionable. North is doing way better. Maybe it's demographics, maybe not....

This part I have to disagree vehemently about. Here are a few reasons I can think of as to why kids playing sports does make them do better in life:
Builds character
Promotes teamwork
Teaches accountability
Teaches good sportsmanship
Teaches behavior expectations
Teaches how practicing makes you better at something
Teaches how to handle stressful situations
Teaches commitment
Helps build self esteem and confidence
Promotes exercise
Teaches how to interact with others both on your level and those in a position of authority
Not to mention someone with exceptional athletic ability can get scholarships and/or get into a better college, and for the cream if the crop can lead to a very nice living.
I still cant figure out what a stupid intendent does to earn over 300k a year which is totally absurd.
Then they will retire with another couple hundred grand a year for the rest of their lives.
Sachem female teachers sexually abusing male students.
How do these female teachers look like? Do these male students really consider themselves to be "abused" or are they giving themselves high-fives?

Sports is definitely important in human development, but maybe sports the way it is implemented in many public schools needs to be rethought? Especially in this age of elite private academies that have made even college scholarships a lot more competitive, one needs to study whether the financial burden of full-blown athletic programs needs to be passed on to school districts.

Sayville is not on austerity. Austerity means the 2nd budget failed and it didn't.
