I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about living in the Stony Hollow Co-ops on Old Town Rd. in Port Jefferson Station, right next to the East Setauket line? We're thinking of buying one on the first floor to use for summers and when we come to LI to visit family any time of year. There's a no washer/dryer rule, but can you get away with sneaking in a portable apartment sized 110 volt washer dryer? Thanks.

I have a friend that lives there, it is not luxurious by any means, but not bad either. It is more like an apartment rental complex than a co-op because a lot of the places are rented out to people. They recently made a rule that new co-op purchases may not be rented out but the other ones are grandfathered in. Overall the place is pretty cheap, and not bad at all.

According to the Census Bureau's online address search function, located at 460 Old Town Road, the Stony Hollow Co-Ops are in the Hamlet of Setauket-East Setauket ("Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776" mailing address).

Thanks, Specialp. That was pretty much my assessment, too, but great to know it from someone who lives there like your friend. From what I've read on their website there will be NO rentals at all after January 2013, grandfathered or not, so that might bring it up a bit along with the new pool and clubhouse. My husband and I are trying to decide between buying there or a small house in Selden as a place to crash during summers and when we're on LI visiting our kids.

Thanks, Walter. Yes, I already knew that. I owned in Setauket for 13 years and have rented in E. Setauket now for 4 years. Stony Hollow is also in Comseogue SD, not Three Village. No matter how you slice it when you say you live in PJS it isn't like saying you live in Three Village. But, I couldn't care less!

Concomitant with the 1980 Federal census, the Hamlet of East Setauket, the Hamlet of Setauket and the Hamlet of South Setauket were combined to form the unified Hamlet of Setauket-East Setauket.

I live about 20 minutes from there and I am selling my co-op for $139500... I have a washer/dryer and it is quiet by the lake. 2 bedrooms.. see my pictures. My neighbors are quite nice and I have a 12x12 deck.

Hmmmmm.

Let me try to explain.

PJS is to 3V as Huntington Station is to Cold Spring Harbor.

Go with the small summer house but not Selden...go check out Sound Beach.

Crooks, 3V is a school district, not a community (community = city, village or hamlet).

According to the Census Bureau's online address search function, located at 460 Old Town Road, the Stony Hollow Co-Ops are in the Hamlet of Setauket-East Setauket ("Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776" mailing address), not in the Hamlet of Port Jefferson Station, and and are in the Brookhaven-Comsewogue Union Free School District.

I had not thought that any part of Setauket-East Setauket was in the Brookhaven-Comsewogue Union Free School District.
