Amount depends on the details of your service; once you find a location/village/town, the local tax assessor's office will give you the details. Everything helps ;-)

Good pont elke

You could get something in Lindenhurst. I disagree with the poster that said Lindy "went to hell north of 27a". I moved here about 4 years ago and haven't had issues. I'd say stay south of Sunrise and you're fine. Even North of Sunrise is not dangerous or anything, it's just run down.

Deadline for tax credit eligibility: Contract fully executed no later than April 30th and closing no later than June 30th

BTW, there is an exception for certain Vets...

What about if he needs a car loan or the boiler breaks... to keep my head above water, we needed 90K+ and we live in a co-op, barely had money left over.... What kind of living is that???

Thanks for the replies. I guess the wife will have to go to work then. I would use a VA loan (no PMI needed). The internet may be misleading me but it seems like there are a lot of houses in places like Baldwin, masapequa, farmingdale, babylon for less than 350k. I will keep looking. I am making 90k now in SoCal and pretty comfortable, is LI really that much more expensive?

True, no PMI, but if I'm not mistaken, it's an FHA loan and then there'll be MIP (similar to PMI, but a min. of 5 years, regardless of equity)

viclom, do the math.. say you bought a house for 350 and put 50 down, your mortgage would be about $1610 @ 5% a month. If by chance you can get a home with property taxes at $6000 they would be at $500 a month. Thats about $2110 a month!

add in a budget of any where from 200 to 500 for utilities
add in homeowners insurance..

would you have a car payment?
Do you have student loans?
What if something breaks?

I was in this situation. 90K didn't cut it.
Consider a condo or co-op.
