Hi all,
My wife and I are two weeks in to our new home in Lynbrook, and with predicted snow on Wednesday being what it is, I just realized that we have no idea how to get home if the LIRR shuts down. Does anyone have a backup suggestion to get from Penn to Lynbrook? I suppose we could get as far as Jamaica via the E train, are there cabs from there? What about the busses, any stop near a MTA subway stop that will get us home to Lynbrook?
Thanks!
There are busses from Jamaica to Long Island. I have never taken one but a co-worker took a bus to RVC during one bad storm years ago.
The best advice...if you can work from home do so. You do not want to be stuck at Penn, or worse, Jamaica. The LIRR is notorious for stranding its customers.
Thanks GPSMA. Lynbrook isn't listed directly on the Map site for the busses, but the N4 does stop at 5 Corners/Merrick--works for us.
(In other words, what Old Spice just said)

Reason: Beaten to punch.
The E train is no picnic in bad weather. Don't ask me why- the entire line is below ground. Just my experience in 10+ yrs of riding the E train. If the snow gets bad just leave early.
chances are tho...if the trains aren't running, the buses wont be either? or do the buses run no matter what? A bus might have to be my back-up plan as well.
