I'm in the southern market for 3 br, 2 ba, 2 car garage, northern east coast with good short term rental potential.
As for the first time home buyers -- Crooks' suggestion Ridge/Lake Panamoka was good and certainly closer to Brookhaven.
You can find houses in Mastic/Mastic Beach/Shirley for under 200k. I grew up there, lived there for 28 years... had one "bad" neighbor for a couple years. Other than that never had a problem. I have never been to prison, been shot at, or scared... I graduated from William Floyd, went to college, and now have a good paying job.
