My buyers'/sellers' attorneys charge between $975-$1,500, with some exceptions on the higher end.

Elke is right $900 onwards for a plain vanilla no issues transaction. If things become complicated and more stuff needs to be done, documents drawn out, to and fro contracts, negotiations, rate lock discussions etc etc it will easily go over $1200.... speaking from personal experience.

We've got a lawyer who works in a firm based in a fancy building, but you'd never know that from his fee. This gentleman only charges $895.00. It's a flat fee, no extra charges for phone calls and things like that. They're in Melville. His legal assistant is super nice and extremely efficient. You can PM me if you're interested in his name and number.

You get what you pay for. I have used both a $900 attorney and a $1400. In the end, the $500 was well worth it and saved me money by catching things the cheaper attorney did not bother with.

If you're a seller, are there a lot of things to "catch" as well?

no it is not the case that you get what you pay for.... find a lawyer that is a REAL ESTATE lawyer... while any lawyer can do contracts a REAL ESTATE lawyer will make the deal easy.... some will work with you if you have a relationship or come from a referal... one of my lawyers only charges $500-$800 because of the amount of deals I do and he is top notch... I have seen some charge $2000 and they were not worth 50 cents.... ask your realtor for several names and see who you like and click with...good luck congrats on your new home!
