As Greenlawn is a hamlet, and thus it is governed on an at-large basis by the Town of Huntington, you might want to check with the Town of Huntington Building Department.

Go to the Town of Huntington site: http://town.huntington.ny.us/phone_directory.cfm
on left side, click on Town Code and when the page pops up, enter "accessory apartment" in search feature on left hand side where it says "Enter keyword or phrase"

The result will show up on the right side and should start with Code No. 198-142 Schedule of fees.
