I remember from my college days working for Hills Supermarketst that the majority of petty shoplifting was done by senior citizens. Usually not because they couldn't afford the item but because they seemed to feel that the item was just too expensive to buy.

The most often shoplifted item by that group was Macadamian Nuts. They were expensive so they usually stuck them in the pocket or simply ate them in the store.

Did your manager force them into the store bathroom with some ExLax to recover the stolen property?

Meanwhile, sometimes the brand name manufacturer makes the store/generic brands so what they were getting may very well have been "the same" anyway ...

I would have ratted them out to the store manager! LOL!
I did! The 'manager' was young and, IMHO, afraid of confrontation

Once a long time ago I was in a local supermarket and I noticed a guy opening the aerosol cans of whipped cream and snorting or sniffing at them ... doing what they called "whippits" (sp?) ... trying to get high on the gas that propels the whipped cream! What a grade A dirtbag! LOL. I did rat him out to the OLDER store manager (a gentleman all the regular shoppers knew by name) and it was priceless to see him sneak up behind that guy and tap him on the shoulder in "mid-whippet snort."

No, simply made them pay for their non-fully digested nuts.

They're really going for the low-end stuff. They used to steal meat, I mean whole rounds, sticking in their coat and act like they were pregnant. We used to say "my you've packed on a lotta weight in your short visit" - just before busting them.
Gotta love Waldbaums.

Too bad the lady in question is too old to look pregnant and take advantage of that scheme. Maybe she used to stuff her stomach back in the day ...

I know exactly what you mean !! I have seen this one time a crazy family of four... drinking soft drinks and eating those cake slices, and leaving the wrappers and empty / half empty cans on the shelf and then proceeding to check out.... crazy !! where are the cameras ??

There's an old guy who walks around Long Beach taking out recycleables from people's recycling bins and putting them in his trunk, so he can get 5cents per bottle.
