There's an old guy who walks around Long Beach taking out recycleables from people's recycling bins and putting them in his trunk, so he can get 5cents per bottle.
nothing wrong with that... if you are too lazy (collective 'you', not you 'you') to return them for the 5 cents, let somebody else benefit from it...
My grandfather, while he was still alive, use to that. He grew up during the depression. When I was young it was pretty cool because he would save and save then buy the grand kids big wheels or something.

Yeah, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. There's a couple that drives our neighborhood the night before bottle/plastic recycling and collects what people have put out. I try and make it a point to get my recycling out in time for them. Like ENFD stated, if I'm not going to get some money back on it, somebody else who is willing to do the work for it might as well!
Same could be said for folks who drive around looking for recyclable metals in garbage piles or just looking for items that can be salvaged. More power to them!

This is why I put out any metal garbage early. Except for copper, I keep that and get the money myslef!
I'm not too thrilled my recycle bandit lately.
He's gettin sloppy.
And, he's leavin empty grocery store bags in the bin, and sometimes other garbage.
My house is like friggin' christmas for this guy.

Actually I was gonna fire off one of those "bird banger" sticks while he's bent over half burried in the bin. That'll fix him.
Plus, I should be able to avoid prison time going that route.
