No one on Long Island likes property taxes, particularly school taxes. We can (and do) go on all day with posts about how teachers "should" be paid this much or that much. The fact is, although our property taxes are high, they are just one way in which Long Island municipalities, New York State, and the Federal Government confiscate our earnings. Here's a few taxes that we pay and, unlike school taxes, do not get to vote on:

Income tax
Social Security tax
Medicaire tax
Sales Tax
Gasoline Tax
Inheritance Tax
Capital Gains Tax
Tax on Cell Phones
Tax on Electric Bills

Please feel free to add to this list.

as an employer ; the MTA tax.

Oh yes, we have employees that take the train ; not. They all drive to work about 5-6 miles a day but yet we need to pay the MTA tax for a service we dont use.

For the same reason we have to pay school taxes when we dont use them. It is a Government service we as a community provide to the community, use it or not.

Add the Lotto to the list.

What about the fees we pay as well.
Numerous DMV fees
Title fees
Registration fees

And dont forget those permits.

Want to fish?
Want to hunt?
Want to park on the street?
Want to park in a park

And if you're not self-employed, there is the mandatory NYS Short Term Disability; some companies pay it for the employees, some do not. It's not much (60 cents/week) but everything adds up!

AMT TAX.
The most evil tax to ever be inflicted on the middle class.
And none of our elected leaders will change it.

Why slaughter the cow when it produces more milk each year?
