What happened? I saw the for sale/lease sign on the building as I passed. Every time I used to pass it around dinner time it was always packed and the one in Riverhead seams to do pretty good too.
According to the Census Bureau's online address search function, located at 610 Smithtown Bypass, the Boulder Creek Steakhouse was in Hauppauge ("Smithtown, NY 11787" mailing address).
I thought I heard it was a family dispute that shut it down. I could be wrong, though, but it has happened to other restaurants/partnerships.
This is what I was looking for. The one in Riverhead was always packed and I went there a few weeks ago. I left long island in late 2008 and came back this February and remembered the Smithtown/Hauppauge location being very busy too. The only times I never saw them busy was for lunch.

you might be right. I'm pretty sure the Boulder Creeks were owned by Scotto Brothers (who also own catering halls like Fox Hollow, Westbury Manor, etc.)...and I recall hearing that there was some sort of split a few years ago.

They did the same many years ago with the catering halls too. They split up due to a dispute. You'd think they would have learned that they can't go into a business together.
Yeah, Boulder Creek was always busy, but we always got a seat reasonably enough. We miss that place.
