Fertilizer. If you're using the Scotts 4 Step, step 2 is a fertilizer and weed treatment.
The way to remember when you need to apply is:
EMIL
Easter - Step 1
Memorial Day - Step 2
Independence Day -- Step 3
Labor day -- Step 4
Nice. I have spoken to TruGreen and Lawn Doctor. I am thinking this year I'll have one of them come in about 4-6 weeks from now and take over the lawn. They typically do 4-5 applications with lime and grub control. I'll be spending about 250 bucks for the year. I am thinking they should take care of the different applications, maybe next year I'll get onboard the Scott's Step program.
Ok, this is important info, thanks, I would have been happy by the 2nd week, but now I have to keep the soil moist for a month. Appreciate the tip
You're welcome.
Keeping the seedbed bed moist is very important. With an established lawn, watering should be much deeper, once or twice a week. The only other time other than seeding that light watering is advisable, is in very hot weather, just to cool the grass, in addition to the proper deep watering.
THe best thing I ever did, besides getting a landscaper, was installing automatic sprinkler system. As much as I was diligent with watering there was nothing better for the lawn than the automatic system. Surprisingly it was not that expensive to install. No matter how much seeding, fertilizer and insect control you put on a lawn it will never look good unless it is properly watered.
Be careful with sprinkler systems. While the grass needs watering ; the best time to water is early in the morning(not at noon time as most of it is evaporated), the trees and shrubs only need watering once a week but for a longer period of time.

I do not have an inground system, I just put an above ground hose driven automatic system. Lets see how long can I drag that. Its costing me about 2-3k atleast to get the inground installed with labor.

I am still in the design process in my yard...I can not wait for the day the inground sprinkler goes in! As it is right now, I have soaker hoses run all over the place for this year's new plants.

So far so good. Lawn is looking good. I have my sprinklers set to 4 AM
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you put Step1 down (Which is crabgrass preventer) new seed will not grow. It should say this right on the package.
