^ it really depends on the person... next door is a husband and wife... since day 1, the husband wouldn't even say hi and is usually hiding inside but the wife would carry an entire conversation with us.

GPC, we got lucky. Didn't set my expectations high incase our neighbors turn out to be unfriendly or hostile.
Too early in the process I think to form judgements I suppose. It feels like a first date prior to getting married to the house/neighborhood.

Oh, definitely but unfortunately practically all of my neighbors proved to be the unfriendly kind. There was a couple of families that were friendly but they moved away. It would've been nice if it were different but I'm not a 'needy' person so overall it didn't really matter to me.

Yes, you probably won't really know until you move in. I do hope the pattern continues for you!

I do hope so. I'm crossing my fingers that it all goes well.
We really don't know a soul in Syosset, so I guess we'll have to make some new friends.

moving to syosset?? and you have 3 kids??? better set aside some money for AT LEAST 1 of them to be going to rehab for an opiate addiction at some point.

syosset kids are vile. plainview kids arent the most amazing either, but "syo" kids take being entitled, nasty, sheltered and delusional to a whole new level. good luck, you'll need it.

and how to lower my new very real, real estate taxes....[LEFT]
Good luck with that aspect. Syosset's got the highest paid administrator in NY State. She makes over 400K a year plus top of the line benefits package. Syosset's also got 4 other administrators that make over 200K & hundreds of teachers that make over 100K. So your taxes will never go down unless you get involved and get the School Boards attention to these outrageous salaries and benefits!

but syosset has a lot more "industry" than say its neighbor plainview.. businesses pay more in taxes, leaving less for the home owners of syosset to make up for.. i just looked up the administrators salary for syosset, it said 290... i thought brentwood was the highest at 220ish, apparently not

Syosset is one of the top performing districts in the country and whatever they are doing they are doing it right. Your kids will get a better education here than in most of the expensive private schools available. If you are paying 11k/yr taxes and have three kids, I say you are getting a fantastic bargain.

When we have kids, Syosset is one of the areas that I would heavily consider moving into.

Default How is your life in Syosset,Salaryman?

I assume you moved to Syosset already. I am looking into buying a house in Syosset. I am also working in downtown Manhattan(WTC area). I like Syosset, but I am concerning about commute. If I buy a house 5 mins to Syosset train station, is 1.5 hour door to door possible?
Thanks for your input.
