if it's done right, they can pull it off...but without a LIRR connection you're just adding more cars to the area. And just how much of the the "Lighthouse" project is going to be parking garages to make up for the giant parking lot they're getting rid of that fills up for arena events?

There is an LIRR spur in the vicinity of this area -- the circus uses it to bring the animals and equipment in. Priority 1 should be to develop this hub and perhaps create a light rail into Hempstead and to the adjacent shopping areas, universities and colleges to help alleviate traffic congestion.

What about a business incubator like at Farmingdale? In this case it wouldn't be on state land and may have more flexibility in what can be done with it.

Another idea is a spaceport. It'd be really cool to see rockets taking off and landing there.

You really have to wonder, were they really thinking of what's in the area already before they floated this casino idea?

Yes, why aren't they thinking of working with the resources that are there?

rockets taking off and landing - cool

We absoutely need more technology incubation here on LI. I've been employed in the software industry for close to 25 years and LI is not where smart, motivated individuals look to join up with a company. The pay is low relative to the cost of living and LI makes no effort to attract and retain leading tech companies.

Forget the casino. Who wants a den of iniquity in their backyard? LI does not need more service sector, morally bankrupt, low-paying jobs.

I'm a big Islander fan and it would kill me to see them leave. That saying, look at the area outside Atlantic City - it's horrible, poor and crime ridden. That's what is going to happen if a Casino is built here.

The Lighthouse brings us industry (medical school and sports med) culture (Islanders, Baseball & convention center, concerts) plus more Long Island jobs.

Right on all counts. It's hard to believe that tech on the Island is so dismal considering that historically the Island was all about tech. The Island has to start playing to it's strengths and be "the place" for it.

You don't need the Lighthouse for medical, and having been to a good deal of Islander's games, culture is not a word I'd equate with the team.

I don't think that was ever mentioned during his campaign. Also, I am pretty sure the Shinnecock Indians only gained the tribal status they need to have in order to be able to possibly run casinos after the election.

Atlantic City was in pretty bad shape BEFORE the casinos moved in. They were supposed to "improve the area" and lift the area out of poverty. That didn't work as we can all see. I don't see a casino doing anything positive for the area.
