Has anyone ever applied for or received any free or cheap public health insurance? I'd like to know your experience. And if you had no job when you applied, was the free/cheap health insurance immediately stopped when you got a job?

OP, you would probably have more of a chance of responses in the general New York forum where all NY'ers read, not just LI.

You also might get answers in the General Personal Finance forum.

There are income guidelines. So if you have a family of 4 and you make less than 2,500 a month or something at your new job, you'd still be eligible. My father's cousin's grandkids have Child Health Plus coverage and the mother works, but at Wal-mart so her income is below the range or something.

To qualify for Medicaid as an adult you have to have a very low income and also not have very much in savings or anything.
