Well I just had an interview, and probably I will get the job. I live currently in College Point, NY and I am going to have to commute to Hauppauge, NY in Long Island. I do have a car?? But, how is the traffic going to Long Islan on the Long Island Expressway? And how long it will take me on the avarege to get to work? Thanks.
I commuted from COmmack to Jackson Heights. I got off at College Point Blvd. It took me anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour with minimal traffic. I think you would hit less traffic heading east.
Less than an hour, probably 45 minutes depending on when you leave in the morning. You're going against the real bad traffic (although the reverse commute is getting worse) and you are close to highways at both ends.
If you can adjust your hours slightly, it will work out to your advantage (8-4pm). The earlier the better as traffic backs up a bit in spots as you head out east - around NSP exit and the Melville area (exit 49 LIE). Not sure past that as I dont go that far.
Same goes for the ride home, traffic builds at the larger exits - in the 30s where the NSP merges w/LIE and then Cross Island exit.
Traffic will be heading in the opposite direction for you so really your commute would be approx 45 min, less depending on how you drive.
