We are in the middle of fixing up our house getting ready to sell and 15+ years worth of knife marks and scratches on our kitchen countertop makes the entire kitchen look bad. The existing top is structurally in excellent shape (no peeling of the existing Formica, no water damage of any kind) - it's just worn. It's a rather large countertop (a large peninsula is involved). If anyone can recommend a company/contractor who has expertise in Formica countertops and services the Suffolk area - we'd appreciate it! Thanks!

Formica is only marginally cheaper than Corian and in some cases, even granite. If you're going to fix it, might as well do it right. You're not going to fool anyone with Formica. You'll get better value out of one of the other options when you sell.

I remember when we were doing our kitchen formica was available at Home Depot and Lowe's, we quickly ruled it out because, like I said - not all that cheap comparatively speaking.

We aren't interested in "fooling" anyone. We are just looking to make the original builders kitchen (in decent shape with the exception of the Formica countertop) look clean and well cared for. We were advised by a RE professional against spending $ on a high-end countertop as the kitchen in our modest house is not a gourmet kitchen and installing a high-end countertop would likely draw attention to the builders grade cabinets and low-end appliances. This suggestion made sense to us. Granite and solid surface countertops seem to go for around $50 per square foot - we find it hard to believe that Formica would be anywhere near that - hence our original request for a referral so that we can get a quote.

It's not anywhere near that much for Formica. You can get decent looking top for a few hundred bucks. I'm not sure about installation costs, probably another couple hundred.
